The Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association will honor Trish this month as a “Community Hero” – an award given for volunteerism. Trish’s endeavors over the past 30 years include volunteer service and support to more than three dozen charitable organizations, including AYSO soccer, Make a Difference Day, SCV Pride Week, Peachland School PTA, The SCV Chamber of Commerce, Prayer Angels for the Military, SCV Tea Party, Santa Clarita, Songwriters Circle, William S. Hart High School Choir Boosters, the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter, KIVA.org, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Santa Clarita Valley, and the International Association of Business Communicators.
Some of Trish’s notable achievements include establishing a rape crisis hotline in Long Beach; the creation of “Net:Work,” a job-finding system for professional communicators in the Los Angeles area; and the co-creation of the Santa Clarita River Rally environmental event. This month alone she is working on the Santa Clarita Valley Alternative Gift Fair and organizing a GoGirls MusicFest concert to raise awareness and funds for two maternity homes.
Trish often donates her time and talent as a performing songwriter. On October 4, she’ll be singing at a Military Family Appreciation event hosted by California Assemblywoman Audra Strickland, and on October 21 at a College of the Canyons Domestic Violence Awareness event in Valencia.

“Plymouth Belvedere,” Trish’s country/rock song, has been selected for inclusion on a compilation CD being produced by National Public Radio. The CD, to be released this fall by NPR’s popular “Car Talk” program (www.cartalk.com), is entitled “Car Talk Car Tunes Volume III: Stairway to Heapdom,” a collection of irreverent songs about automobiles.
NPR affiliates across the nation that air the “Car Talk” show will use the CD for radio promotions and play selected tracks on the air. “Plymouth Belvedere” is the title tune on Trish’s 13-song CD, available for sale right here on the Website.
People laugh when Trish tells them that she was inspired to write the song by the Foster Farms Chickens (www.thefosterimposters.com), muppet-like advertising icons that drive a 1967 Belvedere. “There’s no mention of the chickens in my song,” Trish clarifies, instead citing one particular TV commercial where the chickens attend yoga class and a loudspeaker voice announces that a Plymouth Belvedere with Arkansas plates is being towed. “The embarrassment of old car seemed perfect for a song. Everyone can relate to that!”

Last month, she donated a house concert for bid at a charity silent auction. The winning bidder plans to book the show next spring.
There’s a new house concert link on the home page. We'll even design for you a gift certificate that can be wrapped up and put under the tree. She has been invited by Assemblywoman Audra Strickland (R-Thousand Oaks) to share her musical tribute at “Military Family Appreciation Day."

Trish will share her new song, “Thank a Soldier,” at the City of Santa Clarita Veterans Day Commemoration on Sunday, November 11. The event, at Veterans Plaza, 24275 Walnut St. in Newhall, starts at the traditional time of 11 AM. The public is invited.
Trish's debut CD, “Plymouth Belvedere” released this spring, includes the patriotic song.
“I was inspired to write the song after hearing a famous poem, ‘It Is the Soldier,’ by U.S. Army Veteran Charles M. Province,” Trish said. “Over the years, much of American folk music has been focused on peace. It’s easy to forget that peace and freedom have a price. We owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women who have stood up to protect and defend us. They deserve a folk song, too!”
Lester will also perform the song live on radio station KCSN 88.5 FM on Saturday, November 10. She will appear on the morning acoustic Americana radio show, “Tied to the Tracks,” at 8:30 AM, Pacific Standard Time. The show is broadcast out of Northridge, CA, and for those out of radio range, it may be heard live on the WEB at www.kcsn.org/listen.htm.
The music and lyrics to “Thank a Soldier” are posted here at this Website, and the song is available for download at iTunes, DiscRevolt.com and other digital media sources.

I’m now a member of “Women on the Move,” a group of independent Southern California artists featured on a compilation music CD designed to raise funds for domestic violence shelters.
My song “How Do We Go On?,” was selected for the CD, entitled “Beautiful,” a collection of 17 songs by 14 women artists, produced by Joan Enguita of Red Coyote Records. The music comprises a variety of styles (pop, rock, blues, country and more) and encompasses different aspects of being a woman: following your dreams, love, breaking up, leaving an abusive relationship, etc.
“Women on the Move” are booking benefit concerts, so please get in touch if you’re interested.
My song, ‘How Do We Go On?’ tells three short stories, tied together by the commonality of the human struggle to keep faith and keep going, despite major life-changing events. The song is also included my own new CD, “Plymouth Belvedere,” which was released in May 2007.
The tracks on the “Beautiful” CD are unique and different, and yet every song was professionally produced by the same studio that recorded the music for my album –Nashville Tracks, Los Angeles. The seasoned Nashville musicians there perform and record with nationally-known artists.

Local Singer/Songwriter Trish Lester has been tapped to bring her folk singing skill to the July 4 Parade entry of Santa Clarita Organization for Preserving the Environment (SCOPE). Lester will be on board, singing Joni Mitchell’s 1970 hit, “Big Yellow Taxi.”
“Trish is very talented,” said SCOPE President, Lynne Plambeck. “We’re honored to have her participate, adding a musical dimension to our float. This song fits the SCOPE mission perfectly. We hope to help local residents remember the importance and beauty of our native oaks, the Santa Clara River and all our very special plants and animals.”
While not a SCOPE member, Lester is in sympathy with the environmental movement. “Parade-goers will no doubt recognize the chorus, ‘They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,’” she said. A few years back, Lester included these very words in a letter to the editor about the impending massive development along Hwy. 126.
